Visiting Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles, I snapped a few pictures for my records. Photos taken May 25, 2000, by Petesthousandpeaks.

The Japanese American National Museum was opened just recently. It chronicles the achievements of the Nisei people, who struggled against prejudice and hatred, but nonetheless gained success in society. The then current sports exhibit details the history of Japanese-American athletic accomplishment in the United States. That spanned pre-war sumo wrestling to our 1992 Olympic gold medalist, Kristy Yamaguchi.

On a more somber note, the Go For Broke Memorial, also dedicated recently, honors the efforts of thousands of Nisei servicemen to prove their loyalty during World War II. The names of all those who served, and also, died, are inscribed on the wall in the back of the memorial.
