MARKLEEVILLE PEAK (9,917') CLASS 1
Location: 5 miles ESE of Carson Pass
ROUTE A
Drive: Take Highway 88 to the Blue Lakes Road, which is 2.5 miles
west from Picketts Junction (west junction of Highway 88 and Highway
89) or 6.3 miles east from Carson Pass. Drive south 7.7 miles,
past the end of pavement, to a dirt road going left. Park off
the road, or where the road is wide enough as to not constrict
the flow of traffic.
Climb: The peak is the large bump to your left (east). Hike cross-country
due east to a saddle, then climb left (north) up the south slopes
to the top. The high point is to the left (west).
WINTER SKI ASCENT: The Blue Lakes Road is not plowed, making a long approach from Highway 88. One can shortcut by starting from Red Lake along Highway 88 to travel through rolling terrain and cut the Blue Lakes Road, and then follow Route A to the top.
TRIP STATS: Route A, 1,500 feet gain, 1.5 miles one way.
