DUANE BLISS PEAK (8,658') CLASS 2

Location: 3.5 miles E of Glenbrook, NV, or 7-8 miles SW of Carson City, NV

ROUTE A
Drive: Take U.S. 50 to a signed "Picnicking Area/Rest Area Spooner," which is 9.4 miles west from the junction of U.S. 50 and U.S. 395 or 0.8 mile east from Spooner Junction (junction of U.S. 50 and Highway 28). Drive south on a very short paved road to a small, paved parking lot. An outhouse is available here.
Climb: Take the marked TRT south, and after about 2 miles, cross a dirt road with two posts indicating the TRT. Continue along the trail 0.5 mile more to come to another dirt road. Follow this dirt road up left about 100 feet, then head cross-country up to the left, climbing up the southwest slopes of the mountain. The highpoint is a barren, rocky knoll to the right (south) of the saddle between the two bumps.

WINTER SKI ASCENT: Take Route A.

TRIP STATS: Route A, 1,600 feet gain with about 100 feet gain on the return, 3 miles one way; winter ski ascent, roughly the same.

Notes: This peak has a fine view of the Carson Valley.
