Elephant trees grow in only a few
areas about the California Desert. They are very rare, and should
not be disturbed. An easy trail in Anza-Borrego State Park leads
to a few fine examples, and signs direct one to them. A park brochure
might be available. These particular trees are located on the
southeastern side of the park. As always, while driving on roads
in the desert, use a detailed map. These are available from the
Visitor Center, or perhaps from an auto club. Photos taken March
