At Montana Del Oro State Park,
the trails are well signed, and the construction is good. The
trail grade to the top of Valencia Peak (1,347') is moderately
steep, but a fit hiker can reach the top in about an hour. The
view of the Pacific Ocean is stirring. Surfers use the waves here,
paddling out to meet them. Parking is free, and I saw no iron
rangers or entrance fee stations.
The summit is undistinguished,
with a sign to mark it. Photos taken December 17, 1998, by Petesthousandpeaks.
