Organ Pipe National Monument takes
its name from the many, multi-stemmed cactus called organ pipe.
They are not to be confused with the more prolific saguaro cactus,
with arms or branches. Both are seen in the photos. Kino Peak
(3,197') looms to the north of the 53 mile Puerto Blanco Loop
Road. For me, it is the last Arizona, DPS-listed peak left for
me to climb. It is rated class 3, which means beginners will need
ropes. We were to climb it in 1995, but the temperatures became
just too warm for hiking. Photos taken December 24, 1998, by Petesthousandpeaks.
