RALSTON PEAK 18X April 2, 2000

Being such a non descript climb, I had not included this 18x in my latest peaks adventures since I knew that I'd be doing this peak all the time. Now, though, I have memory, and can be posting hundreds more trip reports, with pictures.

Rex and I started at the Sayles Flat trailhead by 10:10 a.m. We ran into snow 100 feet from the car. I had skied this peak from this way a few times, so was quite familiar with the terrain and the route. Rex wasn't doing very well, but I urged him on.

Finally at 2:14 p.m., we made it. I shot my usual view photos, and other users were up here. The sun and sky could hardly be better for visibility, and we could get out of the wind.

Hiking back down, we came back to the car in about two hours. The snow had become mushy, and I did have to be careful for Rex. No running down to fall into a snow hole.

We had done about 8 miles round trip with 2,500 feet gain. I shot half a roll of film. I had driven 175 miles.
