The summit pinnacles of Cathedral Peak (10,940') in Yosemite National Park may intimidate the novice hiker and climber. John Muir climbed the peak solo in the 1860's, then setting the standard for American mountaineering. A rope, hardware, and the skills to use them comes in handy for the final, short, exposed traverse to gain the topmost point. Photo taken July 16, 1983 by Petesthousandpeaks.
